Help fight against obesity
There’s evidence from animal studies that anthocyanins consumed as part of a high-fat diet can help inhibit both body weight and adipose tissue increases.
Both in vitro and in vivo experiments showed that the antioxidants influenced the function of fat cells, and thereby could play in anti-obesity and prevention against metabolic syndrome (MetS). One study looked at the effects of the anthocyanin cyanidin 3-O-beta-Dglucoside (C3G) and after 12 weeks the tested animals fed with high fat diet and supplement of C3G had significant lower body weight than those fed only with high-fat diet (1)
While the results are promising, additional studies are needed to investigate the potential weight loss benefits of anthocyanin supplements and anthocyanin-rich diets in humans.
